Genesis 33:4-6 But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him.And they wept. 5 Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. “Who are these with you?” he asked. Jacob answered, “They are the children God has graciously given your servant.”6 Then the maidservants and their children approached and bowed down.

REFLECTION: We find the reunion of Esau and his brother Jacob here. Years before hand Esau vowed to kill Jacob(Genesis 27:41) after his deceptive taking of his birthright. What humility is shown here by Esau making the initiative to reunite with his brother. What an act of forgiveness. We see Jacob bowing seven times before his brother as a sign of honor and respect for his elder brother. In the bible the number 7 symbolizes completion and perfection maybe signifying the completion of their time apart and a season of hatred and bitterness toward each other. The importance of the birthright is this, the one who gets a double portion of the inheritance when the father passes away.I find it interesting that Esau refused the gifts of Jacob when they reunited. I think this was his way of saying I’m sorry brother but, Esau basically said brother, I don’t want your gifts. I want your forgiveness.

APPLICATION: Forgiveness is powerful. The greatest gift Jesus has given us and the greatest gift we can give to someone else. Forgive as you have been forgiven. It’s Christmas time, think about who you can give the gift of forgiveness too. Maybe it’s that boss who offended you the other day. Maybe, it’s your spouse who said or did something to cut you deeply. Maybe, it is a friend who betrayed or deceived you. Whoever it is I challenge you to free yourself from that hatred and bitterness that is rotting your soul and make the initiative to forgive them. Don’t wait for them to come to you. Take that step of faith.

PRAYER: Dear father, reveal to me who I need to forgive. Maybe, I need to forgive myself for how I have fallen short. Restore me unto your loving kindness and give me a clean heart. Sanctify me wholly. I pray that forgive those who have wronged me just as you forgive me for wronging you. Thank you for your mercy and grace. May I find favor in your presence oh, God
